It is with pleasure that I present the Hard-Hat Series to the membership. Simply--the Hard-Hat Series will consist of site visits and tours of construction jobs around the area.
We will elicit the assistance of both the project architect and the contractor for a walking-informative tour of different construction sites in the Lafayette and surrounding areas. This will give participants the opportunity to get out of the office and see construction first hand, ask questions to the project architect and contractor, and begin to see the built form of the lines we draw in CAD.
The Hard-Hat Series will try to touch every stage of construction, from foundation to punch-list. We will also visit sites from the extravagant to the mundane, because there is a lesson at every job site.
We would also like to maintain a log of progress of the different buildings we visit. This will have to be provided by the project architect. I will work with him and an intern in his/her office to provide a synopsis of the work, time frame of completion, and the progress of construction so everyone who attended can follow the construction progress.
The first jaunt will happen in April. While final date has not yet been scheduled, only because of the time from now until then, I am hopeful that many of you will attend. I am looking for 70% complete project for our first tour. More will come as the time draws near.
This tour will take the place of the April meeting and information gathered during the tour will be posted on this blog. Regular updates on the construction process will be listed under the same title with **UPDATE** added.
I hope to see you there.
